Meeting Agenda
Introduction and Rules
· Presentation “Understanding Auditory Processing.” The featured speaker is Melanie Austin, MS, CCC-SLP, director of speech services at South Shore Therapies. Auditory processing is how auditory information is interpreted and used by the brain. Auditory processing disorders may include difficulty with (among MANY others):
• discrimination of sounds; auditory memory; making inferences based on information heard;
following directions; separating background noise from foreground noise; rhyming; recognizing
individual sounds in words; identifying the number of sounds in words
Come and learn more about what an auditory processing disorder is and ways to help your child. It is free of charge and is open to all. Please contact Jean Garrity at jeg346@yahoo.com if you have any questions. Although an RSVP is not required, it would help us in planning for handouts and refreshments.

· SEPAC nominations for board positions are now being accepted until April 22, 2011.
· Next SEPAC Board meeting Thursday, April 28, 2011, 9:30 a.m.
· Presentation on Tuesday, May 3, 2011, to be given by Ellen Keane on the district’s anti-bullying policy
· SEPAC board election to take place on May 3, 2011, during the day and during the evening presentation
· Upcoming School Committee & Budget meetings:

(All meetings will take place at the School Dept. Office in Town Hall beginning at 7:00 p.m. unless otherwise noted).

The provision of Free and Appropriate Education (FAPE) according to federal and state laws and regulations related to the education of children with disabilities includes the following areas: Assessment of Students, Student Identification, Parent and Community Involvement, Curriculum and Instruction, Student Support Services, Faculty, Staff and Administration, School Facilities, Program Plan and Evaluation and Record Keeping.

Present: Board members Jean Garrity, Kim Cross, Sue Reardon, and Donna Keaney
Also present: Dr. Loud and approx.. 40 participants
Co-Chair Jean Garrity called the meeting to order at 7:05 p.m. This evening’s presentation was given by Melanie Austin of South Shore Therapies. Ms. Austin spoke for approximately 90 minutes and took questions during and after her presentation on auditory processing.
Old Business: Following the presentation, seven voting members of the SEPAC were present to vote on the Bylaws. A motion was made by Donna Keaney to pass the Bylaws as amended, and her motion was seconded by Kim Cross. Seven people all voted in favor and no one opposed.
Announcements & Adjournment: The meeting adjourned at 8:55 p.m.
