Meeting Minutes
Present: Board Members: Daniela Andruszkiewicz, Marisa Ronan, Sonja Finney; School Liaisons Kerry Ni and Sharon Burnett, School Committee Liaison Liza O’Reilly and Special Education Director Liz Flynn
A thirty minute social preceded the business portion of the meeting.
The meeting was called to order at 10:33 a.m.
The minutes from December 10, 2013 were accepted.
Question and Answer: There is a scheduling conflict on April 8, 2014 at the library. The monthly SEPAC meeting will be held at Hingham Public School’s central office. PRS liaison Sharon Burnett was introduced to members.
Director of Student Services:
Anticipated ESY Schedule: ESY is scheduled to run between 6/30 and 8/1, from 9-12 for the full program and individual hours for related services.
Budget Update: On 1/23 at 7pm, the School Committee will hold the SPED portion of the budget planning. Liz has been working to create financial efficiencies in service delivery district-wide while creating quality programs. The district is requesting new staff: (1.0) ABA specialist and (.5) high school psychologist and (2.25) adjustment counselors. The district is also requesting full time out of district coordinator to assist with administrative workload. Four students are graduating from out of district placements.
Educator Evaluation System: Liz noted that the new educator evaluation system is administratively intensive.
Presentation Collaborations: SEPAC and HPS are discussing collaborating on presentations including:
Maryann Cushing (psychologist, team chair at PRS) presentation of "Natural Playground" re: sensory experiences in the natural, unconstructed environment. May 14 or 15 is proposed.
Showing of "Big Picture" re: dyslexia which the district purchased. March 13 or 20 is proposed.
A 504 presentation by Heather Rodriquez and Liz. Second week of April is proposed.
SEPAC inquired if HPS can do a presentation re: social skills programming in the district.
A presentation on Common Core implementation and its relationship to SPED is delayed but SEPAC is considering inviting Math and English curriculum chairs to a meeting to review the curriculum changes.
School Committee Liaison Report:
Liza reported that the School Committee and Advisory subcommittee will meet on the budget proposal, then it will go before the full advisory committee, then onto public hearing on 2/10 and a school committee vote on 2/24.
SEPAC PTO Liaisons:
Discussion about the Buddy Bench noted some administrators have concern about facilitating the idea and the need for adult supervision. Staff may not have time to do it.
Treasury Report: SEPAC account balance is $10,837.64.
