The provision of Free and Appropriate Public Education (FAPE) according to federal and state laws and regulations related to the education of children with disabilities includes the following areas: Assessment of Students, Student Identification, Parent and Community Involvement, Curriculum and Instruction, Student Support Services, Faculty, Staff and Administration, School Facilities, Program Plan and Evaluation and Record Keeping.

Meeting Minutes
Present: Board Members: Donna Keaney, Jean Garrity, Marisa Ronan, Daniela Andruszkiewicz, Kim Cross, Sonja Finney and Kerry Ni.
A thirty minute social preceded the business portion of the meeting.
The meeting was called to order at 10:50 a.m.
The minutes from November 13, 2012 were amended and accepted.
Treasurer’s Report: SEPAC account balance is $13,499.36. Next anticipated expense is for South Shore Country Club rental for “Shut Up Sisters” presentation. Christmas in the Square declined payment as SEPAC did not set up a table this year due to poor weather.
Communications: Several solicitations and/or informational notices were received via either mail or email.
Old Business:
Shut Up Sisters: Presentation on 01/31/13 at 7pm and should last 1.5 hours. Ticket sales and promotional activities are ongoing. Board decided against running a raffle at the presentation in favor of soliciting supporters for SEPAC’s annual Fun Run.
Hingham School District/ Board of Selectmen Ad Hoc Committee: Next Ad Hoc meeting is 01/16/13. There will be a presentation on how other states fund Special Education costs (most utilize one of eight different models).
School Committee Meeting Coffee: The next School Committee meeting is scheduled for 01/14/13. SEPAC has reserved the Career Counseling room to host a coffee starting at 6:30pm, however the Special Education budget is scheduled to be discussed at 01/17/13 meeting, so SEPAC may change its coffee hour to that day (to be confirmed).
Apple Institute: Jean is working on the application, and is awaiting the Administration’s follow up in order to submit it. SEPAC anticipates sending 4 parent representatives and Liz Flynn.
Special Education Support Group: SEPAC is looking to schedule a date at a member’s home to gauge interest in the community.
SEPAC Advocacy Initiative: SEPAC is considering elementary school reading programs as an initial area to explore with the school administration. Other areas mentioned include the math and writing programs. This is an initiative that can be discussed with the School Committee liaison.
School Committee Liaison to SEPAC: Donna spoke with Caryl Falvey about the role of a liaison and having him/her attend some SEPAC meetings to learn about our mission and share information with the School Committee. Caryl was receptive to the idea. SEPAC is interested in attending the next Special Education subcommittee meeting.
SEPAC Liaisons to Schools: Donna will submit a post for the SEPAC website about the role of the school liaisons for parents’ information.
New Business:
Fun Run/Walk: The event is scheduled for 05/04/13 at Bare Cove Park at the Carlson Fields entrance. The proposed route will run near Conservatory Park so as to not disrupt other uses of the park. A final route will be mapped and measured. T-shirts should be ordered approximately 2 weeks before the race, and last year’s logo will be used. SEPAC will review last year’s raffle and donor list to begin solicitations.
SEPAC Special Education Grants: $1,500 is available to SPED professionals in Hingham by application to SEPAC from money raised at the Fun Run. Marisa has a draft application; all applications must first be reviewed by the J. Andrews in the School Administration.
Sub-Committee Reports: Kerry reported no SEPAC activity from South School.
Director of Student Services: Liz Flynn was unable to attend the meeting. SEPAC will contact Liz to invite Marjorie Jacobs (new Out of District Liaison administrator) to attend its next meeting.
Announcements/Calendar:
- Shut Up Sisters will present on January 31, 2013 at 7 p.m. At the South Shore Country Club
- Next SEPAC meeting is February 12, 2013. Social starts at 10 a.m., business meeting starts at 10:30 a.m.
