Meeting Agenda
Introduction and Rules:
· The evening presentation will be given by Ellen Keane, Assistant Superintendent of HPS. Ms. Keane will discuss the district’s anti-bullying policy. The presentation will take place from 7:00 p.m. – 9:00 p.m. Voting for SEPAC officers will take place during the hours of 6:00 p.m. – 8:00 p.m. in the School Dept. Conference Room. Voting will also be held in the same room earlier in the day from 9:00 a.m. – 11:00 a.m.
Questions & Comments:
· Audience comments are always welcome as agenda items are discussed. In addition, SEPAC has set aside ten (10) minutes on this agenda to enable members of the audience to raise questions and make comments on any matter of general concern. To facilitate this process, interested parties are asked to provide the Hingham SEPAC Chairpersons or the Hingham Public Schools Director of Student Services with the nature of the question/comment, in writing, prior to the start of the meeting.

The provision of Free and Appropriate Public Education (FAPE) according to federal and state laws and regulations related to the education of children with disabilities includes the following areas: Assessment of Students, Student Identification, Parent and Community Involvement, Curriculum and Instruction, Student Support Services, Faculty, Staff and Administration, School Facilities, Program Plan and Evaluation and Record Keeping.
Meeting Minutes
Present: Board Members Jean Garrity, Kim Cross, Donna Keaney, and Pam Berigan. Also present: Mary Dixon-Smith, Election Coordinator, Ellen Keane, Assistant Superintendent HPS, and Dr. Jean Curtis Loud, HPS Director of Student Services. Four additional people attended the presentation.
Co-chair Jean Garrity called the meeting to order at 7:10 p.m. by welcoming the participants and introducing Ellen Keane. Handouts regarding the evening’s presentation were distributed. Attendees were asked to participate in a quick bullying quiz to test their knowledge about bullying issues. After a few minutes, they were asked to pair off with one another to discuss their answers.
Ms. Keane is very passionate about bullying prevention and intervention, and this was evident by the presentation she provided. Following Ms. Keane’s discussion, Dr. Loud discussed the law as it pertains to special education. Dr. Loud distributed handouts from the Mass. Department of Elementary & Secondary Education called “Technical Assistance Advisory SPED 2011-12: Bullying Prevention and Intervention” and “Addressing the Needs of Students with Disabilities in the IEP and in School Bullying Prevention and Intervention Efforts.”
At the conclusion of Dr. Loud’s presentation, Mary Dixon-Smith, SEPAC election coordinator, informed the group of the results of the SEPAC election of board officers. Voted in are: Jean Garrity, Co-chair; Susan Martin, Co-chair; Donna Keaney, Co-chair; Pam Berigan, Secretary; Kim Cross, Treasurer; and Marisa Ronan, Public Relations/Outreach Coordinator.
The meeting adjourned at 8:55 p.m.
