Meeting Minutes
Present: Board Members: Daniela Andruszkiewicz, Marisa Ronan, Sonja Finney; School Liaison Kerry Ni; School Committee Liaison Liza O’Reilly; HPS Director of Student Services Liz Flynn and 3 guests.
A thirty minute social preceded the business portion of the meeting. The meeting was called to order at 10:39 a.m.
The minutes from September 10, 2013 were accepted.
Question and Answer Session: No discussion.
Director of Student Services:
DESE Update: Grants and Audits: Liz reported on grant programs utilized by HPS including an early childhood program. Another audit for circuit breaker funding is scheduled to start October 19, 2013 during which the state will review district logs and invoices. Reporting on SPED eligibility process and early childhood education outcomes will take place in the spring and the state will conduct outcome progress monitoring over the next 3 years.
FY 15 Budget: The district’s proposed budget is due at the end of October to HPS business office.
Educator Evaluations: A new evaluation procedure of all teaching staff is being used this year and it will roll out in a staggered manner.
Liz also noted that she is planning a presentation on the Common Core curriculum as it relates to special education in the spring.
School Committee Liaison Report:
Liza reported that the SPED subcommittee met last week and later toured the South Shore Collaborative School (Galo, O’Reilly, Schreier and Friedman). Ed Schreier told the school committee abut SEPAC’s executive functioning presentation. Liza noted that on upcoming school committee’s strategic school initiatives and she would like SPEAC’s perspective on technology use Committee is currently reviewing best to hire a consultant for the process.
SEPAC PTO Liaisons:
planning meeting would cover budget matters and SEPAC’s input on the topics. Liza also asked for and planning in the district. The school practices found in other districts and has no plan
Welcome to Sharon Barnet as the new PRS liaison and Brooke Gagnier as the new Foster liaison.
Treasury Report: There is no report of monthly account balance. Marisa noted that SEPAC has spent approximately $1300-1400 in the past month due to the Executive Functioning presentation and miscellaneous reimbursements.
SEPAC Subcommittees:
School Committee and HPS Administration: The group is working on an agenda which will likely develop as the Special Education Site Map work progresses.
Special Education Site Map: The group will develop an agenda to meet with administration to design the scope of the proposed site map, access to it and keeping it current.
Events/Presentations: The group considered several social skills presentations (Katie Shamitz, Amy Gordon, Larry Epstein). SEPAC will look into fees and future dates. Liz will solicit staff for potential presentation topics. SEPAC will also review other district’s planned events for ideas, such as Beverly’s presentation on social curriculum for elementary schools and Walpole’s presentation on SPED’s continuum of services (transition planning and housing).
Support Group: The group met on the previous Thursday.
New Business:
Fun Run/Walk: Planning is underway. There is a meeting on November 12 at Bare Cove Park to discuss scheduling the event. SEPAC will consider scheduling it earlier than last year to increase attendance.
Old Business:
CAbi Fundraiser: Donna Keaney and Karen Shusterman will host a fundraiser on October 17 with a portion of the proceeds to benefit SEPAC.
Sarah Ward Presentation on Executive Functioning (October 9): The presentation will be held be in PRS cafetorium from 7-9. The staff presentation will be during the day. SEPAC will arrange for copies of the materials to be available. SEPAC will set out a donation jar to help defray the cost of hosting the presentation.
SEPAC Article to the Hingham Journal: Danie will write and submit an article to the Journal at a later date.

Judy Sullivan replaced Midge Jacobs in late September as Out of District Placement Coordinator.
