Pervasive Developmental Disorders (PDD) /​ Autism Spectrum Disorders (ASD)

Pervasive devel­op­men­tal dis­or­der (PDD) refers to a group of dis­or­ders char­ac­ter­ized by delays in the devel­op­ment of social­iza­tion and com­mu­ni­ca­tion skills. There are sev­eral types of per­va­sive devel­op­men­tal dis­or­der, more com­monly known as autism spec­trum dis­or­der (ASD). The three main types of ASDs include: autism; Asperger's syndrome; and Pervasive Developmental Disorder-​​Not Otherwise Specified (PDD-​​NOS). There are also two rare ASDs: Rett syn­drome and Childhood Disintegrative Disorder.
